Welcome to Week 10
It’s been a while since we’ve had a chance to talk about results, so what have we missed?
The Greg Barry Friends and Family Invitational
In the last four weeks, Greg and Scott K went a perfect 4-0, while Ryan and Gregory were 3-1. That leaves them in 4 of the top 6 places overall, and 2 of the only 3 unbeaten players on the year. I’m sure they were thrilled to wake up Sunday morning and see that Steve also picked the Chiefs this week. Sorry.
Carter’s sometimes bold and always successful picks
Scott K isn’t the only unbeaten player. Carter went bold early in the year; recently he earned the green highlight for best pick of the week. Congrats to him for getting a couple of wins out of the Raiders and the Rams, especially considering how they have been playing lately.
This is a good time to point out a couple of things about our season picks. First, you can see a screenshot of everyone’s picks so far this season by clicking the link on the right hand margin. Bold Pick of the Week is highlighted in bold and in blue, while the Best Pick of the Week is highlighted in green.
Jay is working on a four game streak with the green, while Greg has been best for the last three weeks. Congrats to all who have managed to earn the blue or green highlights.
The Oteros
Jose is just barely out of the money, and yet he’s not the one who has been perfect over the last four weeks. Andy had a rough start to the season, but she’s a perfect 4-0 and is slowly catching up. I can think of no better reason why we need to get our weekly Wallyball conference calls started again than to hear the two of them talk sports.
November Sprint
For you newcomers- you probably noticed a change last week to the standings with a separate category being tracked. What is the November Sprint? It’s a chance to earn cash for those of us who got off to a rough start (e.g.- those not on Greg’s friends and family list).
$30 is up for grabs to the eligible person(s) with the best record, including point differential, for the four games in November. The caveat is that anyone finishing in the top 3 overall or winning the $50 for 50% or the Holiday Bonus is not eligible. Anyone who places in more than one of those six categories will earn the maximum prize.
Why do we have the November Sprint or the Holiday Bonus? It’s to maintain interest for those who were unfortunate enough to match Steve’s Five Star Lock of the Week™ and were pretty much eliminated from the top prizes before the leaves changed colors.
A Perfect Week of Wallyball
Congrats to all last week for going 25-0. Until then, we never had a perfect week of Wallyball, because there’s usually some weird upset in Week 1 (and often this has to do with someone picking the Colts- remember this next season) and after that, a few players begin their race to the bottom to get the consolation prizes. Scot did it so skilfully in 2020, that we had to change the prize structure starting last year. That’s why you earn more for 2nd to last than last place. By the way, Scot is proving to be just as good at picking winners- he’s on a 6 game winning streak.
Dave B was rolling along, piling up the losses, and certainly last week seemed like a good time to take the Jets. Oops. That just proves again how unpredictable this season has been, and gives me even more appreciation for the success of those at the top so far.
Streakers
Most of us went to college in the 80s, and I count these two things among the benefits: that sort of streaking was a thing in the past, and there were no digital video cameras on our phones to record every stupid thing we did. For some reason, these phrases come to mind: G House Reunion, Che Cafe, Jack Daniels. I blame Dave.
So for us, streaking is pretty much only a good thing. Here are the current streaks so far:
9 for Scott K and Carter
8 for Greg
6 for Doug, Eric, Scot, and Andy
4 for Jay K
Best of luck to everyone in their quest to extend their streaks or start new ones.

Great writeup Steve! "Greg Barry Friends and Family Invitational"...Lol. That's funny. Not sure how we're doing it. Only one of us is any good at this stuff (Scott). The rest of us are just faking our way through it. We'll see how long it lasts. But I am nervous about this KC game now. Smart move to trademark "Steve's Five Star Lock of the Week" though. Lol
ReplyDeleteThanks. Enjoy the run for as long as it lasts, which includes you at the top of the November Sprint!
